Stephen Verderber, Arch.D, NCARB, DP-ACSA, is Professor of Architecture at the University of Toronto, where he has served as Associate Dean for Research (2014-2018), is the founding Director of the Centre for Architecture, Design + Health Innovation at the Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape and Design, and is an Adjunct Professor at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health. He is a Registered Architect in the US and founding co-principal of R-2ARCH. He previously taught at Tulane University and Clemson University, and holds a doctorate from the University of Michigan. He has received numerous awards, taught and lectured widely at universities in North America, Asia and Europe and published extensively in scholarly journals and conference proceedings. His nine books include Healthcare Architecture in an Era of Radical Transformation (2000), Innovations in Hospice Architecture (2006), Innovations in Hospital Architecture (2010), Innovations in Transportable Healthcare Architecture (2016) and Innovations in Behavioural Health Architecture (2018). His research-based design scholarship and critical practice activities explore the frontiers of history, theory, and design therapeutics for human and ecological health.
