Phyllis Goetz is the Chief Development Strategist of international design firm HKS. She has 35 years of experience in the healthcare design industry as a thought leader and passionate writer and speaker on evidence-based design, lean processes and patient-centered care.
Phyllis was one of the first to earn the EDAC certification and is co-author of the first study guide for EDAC. She has taught in-depth courses to more than 1,000 people preparing for EDAC certification.
Phyllis is the Past Chair of the Planetree Visionary Design Network, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to collaborating with health organizations to create patient-centered care environments.
She was also a founding member of the Built Environment Network, the Center of Health Design’s executive-level network of professionals committed to improving the healthcare environment.
She published a compendium of Kirk Hamilton’s Evidence-Based Design Research entitled “Rigor and Research in Healthcare Design: A Decade of Advocacy,” as well as a book, “Nurses as Leaders in Healthcare Design.” An advocate of research-driven design practices and a respected educator, Phyllis has dedicated her career to improving the health of our communities worldwide
