Kiran B. Hebbar, MD, FCCM

Medical Director, Children’s Simulation Center | Professor of Pediatrics and Pediatric Critical Care Medicine
Simulation Center at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta | Egleston Children’s Hospital

Dr. Hebbar is a Professor and pediatric intensivist at Egleston Children’s Hospital, the Medical Director of the Simulation Center at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Chair the Resuscitation Science Committee.

For the last decade he has been using simulation to improve bedside clinical practice of medical staff, test systems of care in situ and attempt to embed greater degrees of resilience in systems of care.

In 2019 he led the effort and development of simulation-based hospital design testing (SbHDT) at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and Emory University. This is was one of the largest “cardboard city” preconstruction simulation projects conducted to date integrating architectural evidence-based design principles and user center design methodology (https://twitter.com/PICUDoc23/status/1189100962943774720).  His team has developed some novel tools for integrating simulation into the design of a new facility or renovation of an existing space. He has published several papers on integration of simulation into preconstruction and postconstruction environments and developed a novel tool for debriefing such events termed SAFEE- Summarize, Anchor, Facilitate, Explore, Elicit.
