Barbara Dellinger is Director of Design and Research at Adventist HealthCare (AHC) a multi-hospital system, located in Maryland, and expanding into DC. In her position she oversees interior design to include planning, finishes, furniture, art, signage and lighting, using evidence-based design (EBD) research and best practices as the guiding tool. Shady Grove Medical Center, part of the AHC system, is currently planning a new Tower, to open in 2024, which will include a new ER, ICU, CVIR and new private rooms. Barbara is leading the evidence-based design aspects related to the patient experience in the new patient rooms, using tools from the CHD to conduct studies on existing buildings. Besides Acute Care, her experience includes Behavioral Health and Rehabilitation projects. Prior to joining AHC, she spent 10 years at HDR in Alexandria, VA as Director of Healthcare Design, East Coast. She currently co-chairs the Center’s EDAC Advisory Board, is a founding member of AAHID where she is on the Board of Directors and assists with leadership in the Durable Coated Fabrics Task Group.
