It is clear that resilience in healthcare is a critical priority for any health system and healthcare environment. Resilience is the ability of a health system to mitigate, adapt to, and recover from shocks and stresses, (including natural disasters, political upheaval, violence, pandemic, climate crisis, etc.) A resilient health system can scale up or adapt services to address these shocks and stresses.

Building resilience strategies for clinical and other healthcare workers can also serve as a protective factor against negative outcomes related to the job, including burnout, anxiety, and depression, and can improve patient outcomes.

This webinar offers a unique opportunity to hear about the state of the industry on this important issue from the perspective of leaders from the associations that make up our industry. Hear their perspective on where we’ve come and where we’ve yet to go. These national leaders will share their insights on inroads made by their respective organizations (and the professions that they represent) and identify the next steps the professions can take collectively to move the needle forward. This conversation will explore the many opportunities available to leverage that collective power in the pursuit of resilient healthcare.

These thought leaders will share their real-world experiences and memorable stories from their work and leadership roles, and most importantly, they’ll help guide attendees towards a path forward and shed light on their view of the opportunities for the future of resilient healthcare delivery and design.

VOICES is The Center for Health Design’s premier visionary discussion forum. These hosted interactive webinar panels engage key leaders, from across our industry in discussions that address critical issues, trends, and opportunities of importance in Healthcare and the future of the built environment.

  • Each session will feature a panel of exemplars who will share their experiences from their unique perspectives with a guided discussion and facilitated Q&A.
  • The facilitated format will have extended Q&A with live chat from virtual attendees, post-session recording, and chat notes available.
  • The series' goals are to help individuals and organizations make a difference by illuminating key opportunities, strategies, and innovations while providing a clear link to helpful and thought-provoking resources at the end of each session.

Learning Objectives

  • Explore areas where our health settings are vulnerable to outside threats and how the design of the built environment can mitigate those threats.
  • Identify how to plan and design for flexibility to respond and adapt to changing circumstances and care needs and settings.
  • Examine the real impact of climate change and how design of our healthcare processes and settings can mitigate the causes of climate change and react better to the outcomes of climate change (i.e. heatwaves, other natural disasters, etc.)
  • Benchmark case study examples of existing programs and initiatives that can be applied to future design initiatives that promote resiliency.
