Sharon Pochron, PhD
Assistant Professor, Stony Brook University

Sharon Pochron is an Assistant Professor at Stony Brook University and runs the Sustainability Studies Earthwork Ecotoxicology Lab where she and her students investigate the role of environmental toxins on earthworm biomass and survivorship. Based in the Life Sciences Greenhouse, this research involves undergraduates at every level: from planning, to data collection and analysis, cumulating in publication. Pochron received her Bachelors from Franklin and Marshall College in both anthropology and biology. She received her Doctorate from University of New Mexico in anthropology and biology. She specialized in baboon foraging behavior and statistics. And…she is Barbara Huelat’s daughter!

Barbara Huelat, CHID, FASID, EDAC
Healing Design – Human Centric Solutions

Barbara Huelat is a designer of healthcare environments and has worked across the country and around the world, designing hospitals, clinics, senior living spaces, and other medical facilities. She is the published author of three books, including my most recent, "Taming the Chaos of Dementia."

Barbara is passionate about using design to improve the healthcare experience for patients, families, and staff and believes that that human-centric design can mitigate human misery and create more healing environments. In addition to her work as a designer, Barbara is a healthcare strategist, researcher, hospice volunteer, and dementia caregiver. 

Barbara believes that her personal experiences have given her a unique perspective on the healthcare system and the challenges that patients and families face. She is committed to using her voice to advocate for better care and to inspire others to use design to make a difference in the world.
