Located in the Interior of British Columbia, the “Interior Heart and Surgical Centre” is the final stage on a multi-phase redevelopment of the Interior Health Authority’s, Kelowna General Hospital campus. The new IHSC is located on the existing hospital campus adjacent to new and old infrastructure. There will be considerable challenges in evaluating the best solution to integrate and interconnect the new facility into the exiting built environment.
Procured under the Public Private Partnership model, IH’s vision was to drive improved healthcare outcomes through an innovative system of design evaluation. In this competitive procurement model, proponents were asked to demonstrate the adoption of LEAN principles and EBD practices through their design. Proposals were evaluated using empirical analyses to ensure that design objective prerequisites were exceeded.
