The design of the Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin Clincal Cancer Center, which opened in June 2008, is built around a new philosophy of cancer care that thoughtfully integrates all facets of a patient’s care—from the first phone call to the last follow-up appointment. Centralization is a key feature, creating a setting that fosters collaboration among physicians while simplifying the treatment process for patients.
Input from patients, physicians and other professionals, gathered early on, contributed to the building’s evidence-based, patient-centered design. All disease-specific cancer programs and support services, ranging from imaging and research facilities to pharmacy and an education/wellness center, are housed in the Cancer Center. Most patient care areas are located on the building’s south side around the perimeter, offering patients soothing views of ponds and trees--and even the downtown Milwaukee skyline from the higher levels of the multi-story facility.
The 466,000-square-foot Cancer Center capitalizes on current space and preserves investments in existing buildings and equipment. The design firm was Cannon OWP&P Architects.
