Building Green and in Color
The Vacaville Medical Center in Vacaville, CA, was constructed using green materials and technologies that protect the environment while preserving the health of patients and employees. But the combination medical office building and hospital also features a design that moves beyond green and incorporates a variety of colors in more than 550,000 square feet of building space.
At the heart of the vibrant color palette is noraplan environcare, the inspiration for a landscape design concept that mimics the countryside surrounding the Kaiser Permanente medical facility. Twelve colors taken from the environcare line provide golden earth tones, shades of plant life and sky blues that progress from the ground floor up and guide visitors as they make their way through the building. Paint colors, furniture and other interior finishes compliment the floor colors and help create an environment that encourages healing, even as the floor covering supports the acoustical properties and resiliency the healthcare facility demands.
