Post-Pandemic Healthcare Design for Black Communities

Black communities across the country have been marginalized due to red lining and segregation dating back to the 1930s, and healthcare outcomes in 2021 are still impacted, especially post-pandemic. This webinar will explore innovative healthcare design for a community of color on Chicago Illinois' south side. Roderic Walton, Principal of MOODY NOLAN—a firm which was the winner of the 2021 AIA National Architecture Firm Award—will explore how designers can develop creative solutions to overcome the resulting disparity in today's healthcare landscape. The conversation will focus on the concept of the advocate architect and will also feature recent design solutions from architectural graduate students at Miami University in Oxford Ohio. Finally, recommended steps for the evolution of this type of design approach and practice will be identified.
