Our Bags Are Packed
We know the routine well. It’s been 36 years since we created our first conference, The National Symposium on Healthcare Interior Design (any of you out there remember that one?), so as they say, this ain’t our first rodeo.
But this week, as we put the finishing touches on our plans and programs for our inaugural presence as Strategic Educational Collaborator for next week’s PDC Summit, there’s a sense of excitement and anticipation among the staff as we take this big step forward in our journey.
(For those of you who might have missed the news, we’ve parted ways with the Healthcare Design conference that we helped launch in 2003, partnering now with ASHE as a Strategic Educational Collaborator for the PDC Summit as part of our strategy to expand and enhance engagement between the healthcare design and provider communities. We’re excited to get our healthcare design research, tools, resources, strategies and successes in front of a bigger and broader healthcare audience. To share with them the improvements in health, safety, satisfaction and business outcomes that can be achieved using an evidence-based design process. And to create stronger connections between our healthcare design community and the folks most responsible for planning, financing, building, managing – and approving – the environments we create.
Our PDC educational program this year includes a pre-conference workshop on Fundamentals of Evidence-Based Design. And we are debuting a new Learning Topic and 12-session educational track – Research, Design and Outcomes. In 2025 the track will increase to 24 sessions. Check out what we’re doing here.
Before we lock it up and head out, I want to take a moment to extend our deepest thanks to the ASHE organization and the PDC team. As we scrambled to plan and create our program in a few short months, they have been enthusiastic, supportive and accommodating partners at every turn – and best of all, they already “get us”! We’re confident and optimistic that this will prove to be a successful endeavor!

Noise in the operating room can be stressful to the surgical staff and affect their performance. It may not significantly impact laparoscopic tasks, but it does affect clinical reasoning, especially in less experienced residents.
Communication is vital in the OR, and noise can disrupt it, causing distractions, particularly for surgeons. This study highlights the importance of addressing noise in the operating room, and how it can impact both patient outcomes and the well-being of the surgical team.
