Hot Topic: Aging Facilities – In this edition of the Snap, you can find recent research on healthcare design evaluation including the use of simulation and different evaluation processes and methods. Three new studies focus specifically on evaluating existing facilities for improvement, including two focused on resilience and another on addressing the needs of an existing critical access hospital.

Responsiveness and Adaptability of Healthcare Facilities in Emergency Scenarios: COVID-19 Experience

A 2022 study by Łukasik and Porębska investigates how different spatial layouts in an existing facility can impact emergency responsiveness. Researchers use the GAAT (general adaptability assessment tool) to determine that the preferred layout depends on the type of emergency presented (quarantining, high-volume surges).
