DECEMBER 2021
We Are Grateful
Everyone has a favorite time of the year and mine is between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Eve. The cities look beautiful dressed in decorations, people are in a happier mood, business slows down at The Center and we close shop for longer than usual to spend time with friends and families.
As we ushered in 2021, I think most of us were more than happy to see 2020 in our rear-view mirror. It was a year of challenges, sadness and uncertainty. Though 2021 still had its hurdles to overcome, with the availability of a vaccine and successful protocols for COVID, there have been glimmers of a new normalcy.
As we close out 2021, it’s a good time to reflect on what we have accomplished. To mention a few, we -
- Had more than 12,000 people from around the world attend one of our virtual workshops, webinars or social events.
- Celebrated the 3,000th person successfully passing the EDAC exam and becoming certified.
- Added over 400 research citations to the Knowledge Repository.
- Dramatically expanded our international reach.
- Launched the new Functional Program tool.
- Created content on topics of value to our community, focusing on behavioral health, aging, pediatrics and modular building.
- Came together as a community at the Environments for Aging and Healthcare Design Conferences and Expos.
- Celebrated achievements through the Touchstone, Changemaker, Lifetime Achievement, Healthcare Environment and Nightingale Awards.
We did all of this with your support and for that, we add you to the list of things we are grateful for.
As we move into the holidays, I wish for you and your loved ones continued good health, happiness, contentment and peace of mind.

Center for Health Design 2021 Award Winners
At October’s Healthcare Design Conference + Expo in Cleveland, we were honored to be in the company of and recognize one of the largest and most talented “classes” of annual Center for Health Design award winners. Each individual, project or firm has made tremendous contributions to advancing the healthcare design industry and improving a wide range of healthcare outcomes and experiences.
