In the healthcare environment, art and other positive distractions can benefit patients, visitors and staff in a multitude of ways. While art subject matter, style, selection, placement and size might seem to be subjective considerations, in fact there exists a body of research to help inform these choices and better promote healing, positive behaviors, a restorative environment and other benefits.
To support improved care and medical outcomes, and enhance the experience for patients and their families, today’s design, facility and care professionals must advance their understanding of art’s role in creating healing environments, and incorporate the best and latest research, tools and design solutions.
