2019 Accomplishments


 

Research

  • The Knowledge Repository grew to over 4,600 references and 825 key point summaries with support from AIA AAH, AAHF, ASHE, FGI, AIA DFA, NIHD and Research Design Connections.
  • Provided six "Research in a Snap", a listing every two months of the most recent papers and citations found in the Knowledge Repository.
  • Kathryn Peditto 2018 New Investigator Research Award recipient presented her research at the 2019 HCD Expo & Conference.
  • Continued to add to the Healthcare at Home portion of the Interactive Design Diagrams Tool, with the kitchen/laundry diagram.
  • Continue to support University of Utah AHRQ grant  – Reconfigure the Patient Room as a Fall Protection Strategy.
  • Just named as collaborator for MedStar's AHRQ Patient Safety Learning Lab focusing on diagnosis of cadiovasular disease for women.
  • Ellen Taylor served as the Education Liason for the AIA AAH Board.
  • Ellen Taylor supported the development of the Safe OR Design Tool with Clemson-led RIPCHD OR Patient Safety Learning Lab.

Education

  • EDAC celebrated its 10th year, increasing the global community to over 2,700 EDAC certified people since the program launched in 2009.
  • Added a new testing protocol for the EDAC credential allowing the EDAC exam to be taken from the comfort of home or office.
  • Produced 24 webinars providing 24 continuing education hours. Over 120 webinars are now available on demand.
  • Produced 4 Pebble in Practice Workshops that focused on pediatric, aging and behavioral health facility design. Over 300 participants attended these workshops.
  • ​Awarded 5 organizations with the Evidence-Based Design Touchstone Awards, recognizing the use of an evidence-based design process in the pursuit of increasing value, improving outcomes, and engaging stakeholders. 
  • ​Produced Environments for Aging Expo & Conference and Healthcare Design Expo & Conference with our partner Emerald Expositions, offering 46 CEUs and networking opportunities with over 4,500 colleagues, peers and industry leaders.

Advocacy

  • The Built Environment Network (BEN) welcomed three new members from UW Health, Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals and Stanford Health Care. BEN members are responsible for over 200 million square feet and over $4 billion in annual operating budgets.
  • Held 4 regional Health Design Networking events in San Francisco, New York, Chicago and Toronto with nearly 300 attendees, 4 presenters and 4 continuing education units. A total of 25 local events have been hosted around the US and Canada since The Center started these events.
  • ​Held quarterly free webinar weeks for Affiliate members.
  • ​Welcomed 74 new Affiliate members and 12 new Affiliate+ members.
  • Highlighted the evidence-based design lessons learned by 8 EDAC Advocate Firms in the 2020 EDAC Advocate Brochure.
  • Lynn Kenney, Addie Abushousheh, and Ellen Taylor continued to serve on the FGI Health Guidelines Revision Committee,(HGRC).
  • Ellen Taylor continues to serve on the FGI HGRC Steering Committee.
