Company description/mission:
architecture+ has been providing planning and design services to healthcare clients since our founding in 1984. With over twenty-five years of experience, architecture+ has worked on a broader range of behavioral healthcare projects than any firm in North America. Our founding partner and president, Francis (Frank) Murdock Pitts, AIA, FACHA, has earned a national reputation for his work in the planning and design of behavioral healthcare facilities for special populations, long-term care, and secure institutions.

In recognition of his valuable work for the mentally ill and developmentally disabled, Frank has served as President of The American College of Healthcare Architects. He has also served as President of the AIA's Academy of Architecture for Health and continues to be an active volunteer and contributor to this organization and numerous others committed to the advancement of healthcare architecture.

His expertise is regularly solicited by colleagues and providers throughout the United States and Canada. In fact, he was part of the team that drafted the 2010 edition of the AIA Guidelines for the Design and Construction of Healthcare Facilities and is the author over half of the proposed revisions to the psychiatric hospital section. These guidelines are the national standard used by CMS, and JCAHO as well as by forty-three states as the basis of their own licensure and certification programs.  Among other accomplishments, he also organized a national conference for ASHE that brought together the leading authorities on design of therapeutic environments.

Our work with special populations is innovative and in touch with anticipated trends in treatment modalities. We have received awards from the American Institute of Architects, Eastern New York Chapter, for the West 5th Street Campus in Hamilton, Ontario, Central Massachusetts Psychiatric Facility, and Sunmount Center for Intensive Treatment in Tupper Lake, New York.
