RIPPLE Database - Beta Testers Needed!

The Center for Health Design has constructed a "best practices" database for sustainable and evidence-based design in healthcare design and construction. This open source, searchable database is now available for public testing. It currently includes 170 design practices that Kaiser Permanente has adopted that will help you learn more about evidence-based design. Participants will be able to easily access these "best practices" with accompanying research, business case, "how to" guidance, and contact information.

Learn more by checking out the new database at http://ripple.healthdesign.org/. Feedback is welcome.

For more information, please contact Carolyn Quist or Natalie Zensius.

Research News

CHD’s Research Advisory Council will meet on August 2nd in Concord, CA to develop a multi-year research plan. In addition, the group intends to ratify a Request for Proposal to be disseminated later this year.

CHD is collaborating with Philips Design to identify 2-3 research projects that will examine the impact of the Philips Ambient Experience program on patient, staff and financial outcomes. Our research team is currently working with the Phillips staff to short list some exciting research possibilities. Continue checking our website for updates.

Falls in healthcare settings are a frequent occurrence, costing approximately $3.6 billion annually and having significant negative outcomes for fallers. The physical environment is an often-over-looked factor that can serve to either increase risk or mitigate risk. Purchase Environmental Correlates of Falls: Implications for Design of Healthcare Environments today.

Evidence Based Design meets Evidence Based Medicine: Human Studies for Validating New Acoustic Guidelines for Healthcare Facilities Using a Collaborative and Trans-Disciplinary Approach for Improving Patient Outcomes is currently in its third phase of research on acoustics in healthcare facilities, focused on sleep and the inpatient experience.
