Facility's Technology Designed to Decrease Patient Stress
Knowing that patient anxiety and stress can be contributing factors to a patient’s health, the leaders of NewYork-Presbyterian (NYP) Hospital and its design team looked for smart ways to create a seamless and calming experience at its newest ambulatory care center.
The David H. Koch Center is home to a wide range of ambulatory services, including outpatient surgery, interventional radiology, diagnostic imaging, infusion services and the Integrative Health and Wellbeing program. To ensure that navigating the 740,000-square-foot center doesn’t turn into a stress-filled event, the center includes a number of technologies to direct patients and loved ones.

Two Reasons Why Ambulatory Care Facilities Struggle with Infection Control Standards
Three of the 10 toughest standards for accredited ambulatory care organizations and office-based surgery practices were related to infection and prevention control activities, according The Joint Commission's Sylvia Garcia-Houchins, infection control director.
Sixty-three percent of ambulatory care organizations surveyed in the first six months of 2017 weren't compliant in reducing infections associated with medical equipment, devices and supplies. Organizations also had difficulty implementing infection prevention and control activities and complying with current CDC or WHO hand hygiene guidelines.

Finding Home Sweet Home in Senior Living
When seniors and families are exploring independent living senior communities, amenities and the overall campus are priorities. Yet, in reality, the residential unit design is the piece of the decision-making puzzle that will make them feel most at home and allow them to continue many of the same habits and activities that they’ve become accustomed to in their own homes.
So what makes a senior living apartment a “home sweet home?” AG Architecture ( Wauwatosa, Wis.) has been exploring this question as part of a comprehensive effort to understand what boomers want. This influential demographic of approximately 74 million people is redefining aging, so our firm embarked on an information-gathering mission to learn more about the next generation of senior living, beginning with a focus on unit design. We wanted to understand what’s most important within the design of each living unit and how to organize the space to best support living, dining, resting, entertaining, and personal care.
